About me
Hi there!
Thanks for coming and looking at my blog.
I started a part-time PhD about gender amongst secondary students in November 2020, and have loved reading different pieces of research about the topic. I think it is an incredibly important line of thinking to try to understand, and ultimately help young people to grow up happy and healthy, and it has really made me reflect on my role as a teacher.
Unfortunately, as much as I've enjoyed academic reading, I've not really got moving with my writing. It turns out that writing in an academic style is really challenging. So, in order to try and get me moving I've started this blog where I can turn my thoughts over and put the stuff I'm reading into context. It's not an academic style, but hopefully that means it's a bit less heavy to read.
Overall I've got two things I'm hoping to get out of this: I'd like the practise of writing about gender, and I'd like to be able to bridge some of the gap between the academic world of sociologists/policy makers, with that of the teaching profession. I think that there is a huge amount of research that doesn't make it to the teaching world, and also a lot that goes on in teaching that doesn't become part of educational research. But, all of this said, I reckon I'd probably get a buzz out of knowing that someone is interested in similar stuff to me.
Get in touch if you'd like to talk about this some more!
Ruben
